On 21 March, the mayor of Monte di Procida, Peppe Pugliese, with a delegation, attended the ACES Europe Awards 2022 Grand Gala in Turin at the Reggia di Venaria Reale, hosted by the Piedmont Region.
The mayor wrote on Facebook: “During the internationally important Ceremony, among the many delegations from all over the world, and among the authoritative institutional speeches and those of the top echelons of Italian sport, we were the only municipality in the South to receive the coveted official flag as European Municipality of Sport. I reiterated today my intention to dedicate this award to my fellow administrators and especially to the many sporting excellences of Montesi. They deserve it, in these days they are once again at our side to welcome through the international language of sport the numerous Ukrainian children today in Monte di Procida. Long live sport!“
In fact, the ACES Europe Awards 2022 Grand Gala, traditionally held in Brussels, was held on 21 March 2022 at the Reggia Venaria in Turin, hosted by the Piedmont Region, the first Italian region to be awarded the title European Region of Sport for the year 2022.
During the Ceremony the official ACES Europe Flags were handed over to all the recognised European City/Town/Community/Island/Region of Sport 2022/2023, with the ideal handover between Lisbon (European Capital of Sport 2021) and Den Haag (European Capital of Sport 2022) and the closing dedicated to Madrid, World Capital of Sport 2022.
