Monte di Procida: the Necropolis
At 12.45 p.m., we meet at the Necropolis of Cappella, part of the burial grounds belonging to the Roman military fleet at Miseno. It was used from the beginning of the 1st century BC until the first half of the 5th century. The monuments keep part of their pictorial decoration, consisting of frescoes on the vaults and burial niches; among these, the round depictions of maenads and deities deserve special mention. Of particular interest, due to its rarity, is the fresco of Selene, a deity linked to eternal sleep.
After visiting the Necropolis, we will head to the Belvedere Stupor Mundi, where we will admire the panorama of the islands of the Gulf, as well as Bacoli and Naples. Immediately afterwards, we will stop to taste the tasty stuffed sandwich: the cistecca montese, a typical local product.
-
Monte di Procida: history, myths and traditions
At 3 p.m., we will begin the walking tour through the streets of Monte di Procida to learn about its origins and the role Procida has played for the Phlegrean town. We will visit its oldest and most evocative places, where the ancient link is evident in the architectural elements and toponyms of the streets and in the panoramic views where the island seems to be the main protagonist. The walk will take us to the neighbourhood that gave rise to the first urban centre of Terraferma (as Monte di Procida was called on the island), with the Church of the Assunta, built in 1644, the beating heart of the Monte community; we will walk through the streets of the ancient village where legends and traditions seem to come to life in the murals of local artist Antonio Art and Marian devotion in the work of the well-known Venezuelan artist Luis Gomez de Teran.

9.45 a.m. Tour of the facility and check out
From 10.30 a.m.: Guided tour of the vineyard Vigna di Innaro (The 'Da Innaro' farm is family-run by the Lubrano Lobianco family. Its splendid vineyard, the ecological walk, and the suggestive panorama, combined with a restaurant that enhances the flavour of the typical Phlegraean product, make it an oasis of beauty and tranquillity. Elegant and rustic at the same time, the restaurant and farm are two of the most interesting places for Mediterranean cuisine a few kilometres from Naples. From pasta with wild boar ragù to the best cuts of Tomahawk and Irish Angus cooked on the grill, this Neapolitan restaurant occupies a respectable place in the local food and wine scene. Da Innaro, therefore, is an experience of all the nuances that Italian cuisine can take on, not excluding vegetarian and vegan diets).
At the end of the visit, we move on to the locality known as Acquamorta, where it will be possible to learn about the history of the maritime tradition and the life of the fishermen of Monte di Procida, thanks to the "Vela Latina" association, as well as a pleasant stroll along the pier.
Acquamorta.
Being an inlet, this particular name (literally dead water) suggests the waters are not affected by the force of the currents.
According to legend, a wealthy lord named Cosimo, owner of a piece of land above the ridge, lived here long ago. When he went to check on his estate, he sometimes took his only daughter, Acqua, with him. One day, the young girl, taking advantage of a moment of her father's distraction, ran alone to the beach for a swim. Between dips, she went too far out to sea without realising it. A wave dragged her underwater, almost drowning her, but suddenly, someone brought her back to the surface. When she regained consciousness, she found herself in a small boat with Joshua, a young Procidan fisherman who, on his way to the small harbour, had seen her drown. On the way back to the beach, the two told each other how they only felt at home when they could see the sea. The small boat came ashore, and the two had to say goodbye. Every day, at about the same time, Acqua would see Joshua's little boat on the beach, raise her arm and greet him. He would let go of the oar in response to the greeting. One day, Joshua's boat did not come back, and Acqua heard the news that some fishermen in Procida, caught in the storm, had drowned. As legend has it, after several days of waiting, the girl headed out to sea without ever returning. From then on, the inhabitants started to call that beach '"Acquamorta".
At the end of the tour, return to Al Chiar di Luna and lunch at the hotel.
